What is acupuncture and how does it work?

According to Chinese philosophy, a healthy body is well balanced. The body's energy, known as Qi (Chi), is moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels (so called meridians) beneath the skin. By inserting very fine acupuncture needles into acupuncture points running along these channels, an acupuncturist can stimulate the body's own healing response and help to restore its natural balance. Often an area or acupuncture point may be warmed by 'moxa' (Chinese herb mugwort), a very pleasant and relaxing part of the treatment.

Who can benefit from acupuncture?

Once considered a luxury, it is now becoming a necessity to preserve one's health and maintain a healthy lifestyle balance due to high every day life demands and expectations.

Acupuncture is one way how to achieve your health goals. It is a drug-free alternative that is suitable for most people. When you are unwell, acupuncture helps you regain your health faster and reduce the time needed for recovery.

I have clients contacting me with a wide range of health imbalances, such as pains and aches (as a result of sport injuries, office workers with stiff neck and shoulders, thoracic or lower back pain etc.), headaches and migraines sufferers, people catching colds and flu frequently and wishing to boost their immune system’s function, allergy sufferers, pregnant women or those trying to conceive, people with anxiety, depression, insomnia or simply juggling stress (students before big exams or busy professionals with demanding careers) and others. Some may come with vague symptoms of feeling generally unwell or fatigued while all their medical tests show everything is fine. Some come because they are curious about acupuncture and wish to try it.

Many chronic conditions respond well to acupuncture. People may also additionally find that their ability to adapt to changing circumstances, such as sudden weather changes, family or workplace demands is addressed with acupuncture.
